Storage:
Since our food does not contain preservatives, our products must be stored in the freezer. Always thaw before serving. Food may be thawed in the microwave for 30-60 seconds or lightly warmed prior to serving; however, it should not be heated above 140 degrees F in order to preserve the nutritional content. Once thawed, product may be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
The food bars fit perfectly into a small cooler with cool packs for travel to the beach or camping.
Feeding
How to Transition - Getting Started:
How you make the transition will make all the difference in your dog's experience as well as your own. Typically it takes 3 to 7 days to switch foods comfortably and let their systems regulate the enzymes and stomach acids required to adapt to changes in their diet. A sudden switch to even the healthiest diet can upset a system that has not yet developed the ability to effectively process the food. The result may be those all too familiar 'toots' or even diarrhea. Dogs used to a strict grain-free or vegetarian diet may require a slower transition over a longer period of time to adjust to the new nutrients in their diet. Some dogs can take as much as 22 days.
Typical Transition:
If you begin to notice any symptoms such as loose stools or excess gas, double the number of the days on each phase.
- Day 1 & 2: 75% of the current food + 25% My Perfect Pet food.
- Day 3 & 4: 50% of the current food + 50% My Perfect Pet food.
- Day 5 & 6: 25% of the current food + 75% My Perfect Pet food.
- Beginning Day 7: 100% My Perfect Pet food.
Servings:

Feeding Instructions:
Nutritional requirements differ between high energy, active dogs and less active dogs. More active dogs with higher energy needs may need increased serving sizes, and less active dogs may require slightly less.
My Perfect Pet products are a very concentrated energy bar. Since each bar is 100% nutritionally complete and balanced, you do not need to supplement My Perfect Pet foods with any additional vitamins or minerals. They are ready to be served as soon as they are thawed.
How Much to Feed
We typically recommend feeding 1 bar for every 20 pounds of the Adult Dog’s ideal weight, and one bar for every 10 pounds of a growing Puppy’s ideal weight. For more detailed feeding instructions, click here.
A Note About Seniors:
Smaller breeds mature faster, but age more slowly after reaching maturity. A small dog (such as a toy poodle, terrier, chihuahua, etc.) isn't considered "geriatric" until much later than a larger breed - maybe 10 to 12 years old, while the largest breeds may be senior citizens at 5 or 6 years of age. Most vets consider the average dog to be a senior citizen after age 8.
Some 'senior' dog foods are basically marketing hype, offering little difference between the regular food and the senior food. While growing puppies have very different requirements from adult dogs, there is only one nutrient profile for adult dogs. Some adult dogs become less active as they age and therefore need fewer calories and nutrients while others may need more due to poor digestion. Some older dogs may have specific health problems (such as failing kidneys, diabetes or poor absorption) and may need a different blend of nutrients compared to healthy, younger dogs. Senior foods may contain less energy and nutrition and could be detrimental to the health of dogs with poor digestion.
